About Grace
Grace Hughes is a Blues, Jazz, and R&B vocalist from the Hunter region. She has been performing since she was 12, with training in classical, musical theatre and jazz vocals. Her journey started in local productions in Newcastle while she was completing her studies at HSPA. She had the privilege of leading the HSPA Stage Jazz band as a vocalist during her teenage years and was also a part of the junior and senior choirs, leading the alto section as a senior. During this period, she began tutoring privately and playing for HSC exams. She developed a set curriculum for junior students and helped them achieve their vocal goals by building their vocal technique and performance confidence.
After graduating in 2019, Grace moved to Sydney to study at the Sydney Conservatorium. Though she decided not to complete her degree due to the Covid lockdowns, she continued to write and perform. Once restrictions lifted, she joined several jazz bands and had the opportunity to perform regularly at St Stephen's Cathedral, playing with both their Vespers Jazz Band and the Count Basie Big Band. In September 2024, she began headlining and had her first sold-out jazz night, which was followed by many more.
Most recently, Grace has been focusing on her solo project, Casual Affair, a blues/rock band based in Sydney. The band is preparing to release their debut album in the coming months and are playing regularly at festivals and venues across the city.
